Question:“On self-pity”
On self-pity
Self-pity is a bandage on a wound. It is needed when it goes on, and if it is never taken off, what is underneath does not heal.
Write your situation in one line. Beside it, write one line of what you would say to someone else in the same situation. Read the second line to yourself. The moment pity turns into advice, the bandage falls away.
The Iliad says that Bellerophon, hated by the gods, wandered the Aleian plain alone, eating his own heart.
