Wanting to see the sea is not wanting to see water. It is wanting, once, to see something without an end. Rooms and screens all have ends.
If you can go, go this week. Half a day is enough. If you cannot, stand for ten minutes somewhere the sky reaches all the way to the edge. When the eyes touch something far, the walls of the mind step back a span.
Xenophon’s ten thousand, crossing the mountains, saw the sea and shouted “The sea, the sea.” They were still far from home, but in that shout they were already half returned.
