Question:“On numbness”
On numbness
Numbness is not feeling that has died. It is feeling that has closed the door to rest. It is the quiet that follows too much.
Do not force the feelings awake. Wake the senses instead. Put your hands in cold water, eat something sour, stand barefoot on the floor. Feeling returns through the back door of the senses. If the quiet lasts for weeks, tell a physician of the mind as well.
After the great flood, the stones Deucalion threw over his shoulder became people. To turn from stone back into a person took only a hand that threw.
