Question:“On keeping a distance”

On keeping a distance

Distance is not a wall. It is deciding when the door opens. A house whose door is always open is not a house but a road.

Decide one thing you will share with that person and one thing you will not: time, or money, or the evening. Do not announce what you will not share; simply do not share it. Distance becomes a fight the moment it is explained.

Hesiod wrote that a house should be known neither for too many guests nor for none. What he spoke of was not the fence but the door.
