Vanity is wearing the clothes of the person you want to become before you become them. The clothes are innocent. But when the bill is paid by debt rather than by the body, that person never arrives.
Find one thing in this month’s spending that you bought to be seen. Next month, spend that sum on learning one thing the person you want to be actually does. The clothes follow afterwards.
Aesop’s jackdaw stuck on the feathers of peacocks and joined them, and was pecked and driven out. When it came back, the jackdaws would not take it either.
