On standing in line

A line asks what your time is worth. Decide before you join it whether the thing at the end is worth that price.

Once you have joined, stop looking at the clock. Trade a word with the person ahead, or read the piece you have been putting off. If the line has not moved in thirty minutes, leave. Coming back another day is also an answer.
