A diary does not hold the day. It lets the day go. What has been written down stops circling in the head.
Tonight, write three lines only: one thing you did, one thing you felt, one thing for tomorrow. Do not try to write well. Three lines will surprise you ten days from now.
The Golden Verses of the Pythagoreans said to go over the day’s deeds three times before sleep: where you went wrong, what you did, what you left undone.
